Week 1 character references and moodboards

We decided that the game's style theme is the 1920's flapper era. The game will be set in a grand ballroom.

Our goal is for the game to look as close to an AA game in terms of graphics as possible.  But a stylized type of AA game. Like Overwatch or Bioshock. Because the characters are stylized I have a little more freedom with proportions and I can make the hair a solid mesh instead of having to deal with hair cards.

The GDD for the game has been created and can be found here.

We have a Trello board and schedule. On the Trello board we can create checklists for each of us to look through and tick off. We can separate our jobs from each others to make viewing more manageable .  Trello link

This week we are doing research on 1920s styles and the look we want to accomplish. Below are some mood boards and references I gathered.

We decided on four main characters that the player will investigate and talk to. Faye is doing the story writing and together with Em they decided on the outline for each character. Character Profiles and Game plot link

The first character is Julie, the wife of the dead man. She is materialistic so she dresses extravagantly.

Second character is Daniel, the mobster character. He's a sort of scary guy but also a socialite so he can't be too rough looking.

Shirley is the hotel manager. She's not flashy, more introverted. So I'll go for more 1920's casual wear rather than their party wear.

Vernon is the love rival of the dead man, he's not particularly rich so he needs to look that.

Since 1920's women could dress quite extravagantly I've collected a bit more references on them. There are  many varieties of accessories and dress types that I could go for.
