DEVELOPMENT UPDATES - week 3 -  STORY WRITING & PROGRAMMING (May 10 - 14)

PROGRAMMING, UI/UX, STORY WRITING

Development week 3 focuses mainly on the UI Drafts and design. The script for the game's narrative had also been reviewed and revised along with other scripting and small scene updates done inside unity. The details are outlined on the following subtopics below.

UI DRAFTING

Before drafting had begun, a mood board had first been made and made to specifically contain UI design inspirations based of the game's art deco theme while also gathering inspiration for detective themed elements that can be inserted into the design. Starting with the planned Case Log UI design that would contain the information the player has uncovered in the game, the drafting was in process.

The resulting initial design for the aspect of the UI mentioned had been inspired from the file holders and folders and attempted to make use of the colors selected on the moodboard, however, as the drafting continued to the other menu options and UI elements, this initial design had to be revised to follow the theme set by the other drafter UI screens. The initial and revised designs are displayed below.

SCRIPTING

In addition to UI Design drafting, in unity, the various scripts that handle displaying information to the player had been setup this week.  The details of which are explained in the topics below.

NAVMESH: DRAWING A PATH TO THE GOAL

Aside from the planned task log that the player can review on the upper righthand corner of the screen, navmesh has also been used to assist a line renderer in displaying a path from the player to the current goal outlined.

HUD: DIALOGUE SCRIPTS & BASE UI

Currently, the HUD available to the player looks like this with placeholder text and images filling it out to block the elements included in the scene.
