Development Updates - Week 1 - Ideation and Schedule (Apr 27 - 30)

DEVELOPMENT UPDATES - week 1 -  IDEATION & SCHEDULE (April 27 - 30)

PROGRAMMING, UI/UX, STORY WRITING

In this team project, my current role/s include UI/UX design, developing the game as a programmer, as well as writing down the specifics of the narrative for the RPG game the team is making. This first update outlines the game's ideation process, links to the game design document outlined, showcases the mood boards that serve as the game's style guide, and the detailed project schedule as decided as a team.

GAME DESIGN DOCUMENT

The team has written down a 1-page Game Design Document (1-pg GDD) based on the points researched and discussed during the ideation process, outlining the basic narrative of the demo RPG and the features the game will have to offer, as well as a visual style guide prepared by the members assigned to be artists on the team.

MOODBOARD

The demo is set in a 1920's based environment, which is reflected in the environment mood boards attached below. The art style of the game is inspired by BioShock which features stylized characters in a semi realistic to realistic game environment.

SCHEDULE

The project schedule and specific tasks for each role were outlined on a trello board using the calendar power up after finishing up the specifics on the 1-pg GDD.

BASIC NARRATIVE & CHARACTER PROFILES

The team came together and discussed a basic narrative for the game, as well as profiles for the victim and the suspects involved in the story. This story outline will serve as a guide that will help character design and the extended dialogue and gameplay planned for the project. The full narrative and dialogue options are scheduled on the 2nd week of production, however, the full script is already currently being written.

UI/UX FLOWCHART

This chart had initially been scheduled as part of the  3rd week of development, however, seeing as the diagram itself would assist in determining the scripting and UI asset lists' specifics, I took the liberty to move this up during the planning stage of the project. The UI/UX Flowchart showcases the planned flow of the user experience when the user loads up the game. Since the game is planned as a demo, only one chapter will be available to play. The in-depth narrative and choice map of the game will be outlined in a separate diagram when the whole script has been written down—which is scheduled at the end of the 2nd week of the project development.
